About The Artist
Cheyenne Sookoo is a self-taught artist. She was born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago but grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from a Tony Bennett funded art school and completed a photography and image-making class at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, which has helped her to sharpen her skills.
Cheyenne is the Founder & Creative Director of Paints By Chey, an independent art business devoted to custom paintings, logos, graphic design, and custom clothing designs, and Events on Canvas, which is a company that specializes in live painting at events of all sorts. She also had a partnership with the BLICK art materials flagship location in Soho, where she was being featured as their #RISINGARTIST and was also featured on NY1, CBS News, Bold Business TV, and American Graduate Day on PBS.
Being an NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) Alumni, she has studied entrepreneurship and the fundamentals of launching a business at a startup incubator at NYU Steinhardt. Cheyenne also identified a business opportunity, developed and pitched a business plan of her second business, Events on Canvas, to a panel of judges, winning her 1st place in the Regional New York Metro Entrepreneurship Challenge, and top 12 semi-finalists in the National Youth Entrepreneurship Competition.
The success of that business has earned Cheyenne the honorary title of being NFTE’s Global Entrepreneur of the Year. She was also honored at the Ernst & Young Gala for being the Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Cheyenne also received a Power Girl Award for her entrepreneurial achievements from the Power of You Teens Foundation, inspiring young girls in the arts fields. Starting off 2019 with a bang, she was given the honorary title of being Global Tassels Artist of the Year and will be awarded at their annual Founders Gala.
